Baltimore City Fire Marshal – Public Notice

Staff from the Baltimore City Fire Department Office of the Fire Marshal would like to inform and remind event organizers of important fire safety updates outlined in:

  • Building, Fire, and Related Codes of Baltimore City (2024)
  • Maryland State Fire Prevention Code (2025)

These updates may impact the planning and execution of events, including, but not limited to:
concerts, carnivals, fairs, festivals, and other public gatherings for entertainment or amusement.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Cooking operations
  • Crowd management requirements
  • General fire safety provisions
  • Tent and temporary structure regulations

Ensure Compliance

The Office of the Fire Marshal inspects and supports the planning of numerous events throughout Baltimore City each year.

If your organization is planning or hosting a public event, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Office of the Fire Marshal to:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable fire codes
  • Avoid delays or operational issues
  • Promote a safe environment for attendees

Recommended timeline:

  • Contact at least two weeks prior to your event
  • For large-scale events, contact well in advance
 

 

Random Inspections

The Office of the Fire Marshal conducts random fire safety inspections at public gatherings to ensure compliance with current fire codes and to protect public safety.


 

Schedule an Inspection

Fire Marshal inspections may only be requested after successfully completing:

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections
  • Health Department inspections

You will be required to provide proof of these approvals at the time of your Fire Marshal inspection.
